Overview

eBay is an e-commerce website that facilitates a wide variety of goods and services worldwide. Users can find anything on eBay from latest sneaker drops to memorabilia Pokémon cards, from vintage cars to the latest sports equipment. The View Item page is the heart of the eBay shopping experience—where users evaluate, compare, and ultimately decide what to buy. The view item page is eBay’s highest trafficked page with hundreds of million views per day. Each feature competes with each other to determine their position within the page and it changes based on our user testing. My work focused on modernizing this core page to better support decision-making, surface key information faster, and drive higher conversion.

My Role

I was part of the View Item team, where I collaborated across a team of designers, content writers and product managers. My role was creating user-centered designs with the focus on maximizing usability and the user experience, while maintaining the standard the eBay users have come to know. I worked closely with product managers, researchers, engineers, and content to rethink the layout, elevate buyer confidence, and simplify the mobile experience.

Problem

We identified that the View Item experience needed to be polished and modernized from its current form. Key buying signals—like price, shipping, seller ratings, and return policies—were sometimes buried or hard to scan. eBay has a long-standing customer base with deeply ingrained expectations so even small changes risks alienating users. We had to implement updates incrementally and thoughtfully.

Goals

Our goal was to make the View Item page easier to use by making it more intuitive, less cluttered and on par with other modern apps through standard mobile behaviors and UI.

  • Surface critical buying info (price, seller trust, delivery) more clearly

  • Improve discoverability and reduce decision friction

  • Drive higher conversion by modernizing layout and hierarchy

Outcome

During my time on this team, we shipped many new features on the View Item page that enhanced the overall user experience. Whether it was a desktop, tablet or mobile, our goal was to make sure we shipped off a seamless and consistent experience.
